Moving is always such a crazy ordeal, isn't it? We had a few hiccups along the way, but everything came together quite well. Besides a couple of fathers (mine and Brent's) being sore for a few days (they both worked extremely hard and helped out a ton!) I don't think we had any major injuries. It was a long couple of days, and then we didn't stop working the first couple of days we were here in the new house. So once we kind of slowed down a bit (last Tues/Wed) my body kind of gave up on me. I think my subconscious realized I didn't HAVE to keep up the high energy, so it decided to force me to STOP. I was quite dead for a couple of days, but luckily the kids were all good while I took naps and tried to recuperate. We're feeling pretty settled in now. The only boxes we have left to unpack are all the pictures.
The kids love the new house and have had fun this week playing out in the backyard. They've come in completely filthy every night since it's still just dirt back there, but they've had a great time making mud and digging a hole for a "clubhouse." If it weren't for all the weeds starting to grow already we might be tempted to leave it just dirt back there. But then my logical side takes over and I realize we need some grass.
We haven't got around to taking pics yet, but hopefully I'll be able to do that tonight or tomorrow and get some up.
When asked what they like best about the house, these are the kids' responses:
AJ: I like that I get to share a room w/Tink.
Roo: I like that I get my own room.
Tink: I love Lady! (With the other 2 kids protesting that that has nothing to do with the house.....oh well, it's cute anyway!)
Lady: She gave me an emphatic nod.
Ann: I like the floorplan and the kitchen. I LOVE the kitchen! (We have empty cupboards and drawers still with nothing to put in them.....never experienced that before!)
Brent: I like that we're not tripping over each other and the kids anymore. (This is especially true at night when we're getting them ready for bed. We went from a very small one-sink bathroom where the sink was 12 inches away from the toilet which was 12 inches away from the bathtub (try fitting 6 people in there comfortably while 4 of them are trying to brush teeth and go potty) to a 3-sink bathroom where the toilet and tub are in a separate room!......Heaven!)
We've already done a bunch of projects in the last week (some expected, some unexpected), and we've got quite a bit more to do, but we're excited!
Oh, and as of this morning we have a new roof! (You might ask why we needed a new roof on a 7 year old house.....well, apparently the woman who built the house went with the cheapest bid and after 7 years of high winds, there were numerous spots on the roof which no longer had shingles, thus letting melted snow and rain seep down through the roof and leak through different places in our ceiling. With this being spring and all, we decided the roof was a top priority.) And now no more leaks! (And I must add that the new roof is so much prettier.)
I also wanted to thank everyone who came to help us move and for those who helped out before, during, and after the move in different ways. And I wanted to thank the wives of all the men who came to help move too. Thanks for sharing your husbands for a day!
